THE BEST TOOLS FOR CRICUT BEGINNERS

If you’re new to the world of Cricut crafting, it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. There are so many materials and tools available, it’s hard to know what you really need. When I first got my crafting hobby started, it was tempting to run out and buy everything to have at my disposal – I wouldn’t advise to do that as you can just start off with the basic tools.

So, here’s a list of the best tools every Cricut beginner should have in their arsenal.

WEEDING TOOL

The first tool on our list is the weeding tool. This tool is used to remove unwanted material from a cut design. When working with vinyl, it’s important to remove any excess material to ensure that the design looks clean and crisp so a weeding tool is essential for this process.

SCRAPER TOOL

The scraper (or burnish) tool is another essential tool for Cricut beginners. This tool helps to smooth out and adhere vinyl to surfaces. After cutting your design, you’ll need to transfer it to a surface. The scraper tool helps to remove any air bubbles and ensure a smooth finish.

BRAYER TOOL

This tool is designed to help you apply pressure and ensure a smooth, even application of materials like vinyl, transfer tape, and more, without causing wrinkles or air bubbles.

TRANSFER TAPE

Transfer tape is used to transfer a cut design from the mat to a desired surface. This is an important step in the process, as it helps to ensure that the design is placed correctly and looks its best. There are different types of transfer tape available (low-tack, medium-tack, high-tack), so it’s important to choose the right one for your project.

BLADES

The Cricut machine uses different blades for different materials. For example, the fine-point blade is used for cutting paper, while the rotary blade is used for cutting fabric.

SCISSORS

A good pair of scissors is a must-have tool for any crafter. You’ll need them to cut materials that are too large to fit on your cutting mat.

SPATULA TOOL

This tool is designed to help you lift delicate or intricate cuts from the cutting mat without damaging them.

TWEEZERS

These precision tweezers are designed to help you lift and place small, delicate pieces of paper or vinyl with ease.

CUTTING MATS

Mats are essential for holding materials in place while cutting. These mats come in different sizes and strengths, depending on the material you’re working with. It’s important to choose the right mat for your project, as this will ensure that your design is cut accurately – see THE CRICUT MAT GUIDE for more info on the different types of Cricut mats, and what materials they work best with.

TRIMMER

A handy tool for any crafter who needs to cut various materials with precision and ease, and make clean and accurate cuts on a variety of paper types, vinyl, and more.

With these basic tools, you’ll be well on your way to creating all kinds of amazing Cricut projects. As you become more experienced, you may want to add additional tools and materials to your collection to expand your creative possibilities.

See you next time!
